Haematology
Challenges for 2007 and beyond
Clinical Network has been identified by the State Department of Health as one of the main tools for improving health care across the State. The improved accessibility and communication with patients/families and primary care providers, the streamlining of care provision across the state in terms of services provided at each main sites, common protocols and systems are some of the benefits. The Haematology Service will be part of the Cancer network. However, with its unique function as the State Haemopoietic Transplantation, Adult Haemophilia and Thalassemia Centres, adequate input into the policy and planning of the Network is vital.
We will continue to seek improvement in patient care through outcome audits, patient pathway analysis, protocol update and individualised patient scheduling. Evaluating the value of the Clinical Operation Manager position in delivery a cost-effective high quality service is also of high priority in order to seek justification for the continuation of this role.
Ensuring the appropriate use of High Cost drugs such as anti-fungal agents and anti-cancer agents will continue.
