RAH Educational Programs and Research

The hospital has a strong tradition in medical education and training as well as for junior doctor support and mentorship.

Intern training offers a wide variety of rotations to allow junior doctors to sample a range of clinical experience.  Paediatric and obstetric rotations are available through the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and there is the opportunity to rotate to general practice during internship.

Basic specialist training positions are offered in all the major disciplines including adult physician training, surgery, emergency medicine, etc as well as the hospital terms needed for general practice training.  For junior doctors who have not yet committed to a specific training program a general year with a variety of rotations which will provide a broad range of experience is available and can incorporate a range of general practice and community based rotations.

Being the largest tertiary level teaching hospital the RAH offers the full range of advanced training opportunities for subspecialty training in adult medicine from all the vocational training Colleges.

RAH interns and other trainees have the opportunity to participate in formal tutorials and teaching sessions which include simulation training.  The hospital has an excellent reputation for teaching and a high success rate for vocational examinations.

RAH works closely with the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science (IMVS) and the Hanson Institute.  The entire RAH campus has achieved widespread recognition for its commitment to medical research.
