Ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital is a centre of excellence which provides a comprehensive eye care service.
It is the busiest Eye Unit
in South Australia seeing over 17,000 outpatients and performing more than
1,500 surgical procedures annually. The Unit is composed of 12 consultant ophthalmologists,
1 optometrist, two fellows, three registrars and 1 resident. Aside from a commitment
to providing quality general eye care to the community the Department also
incorporates sub-specialty units in eyelid and orbital surgery, vitreoretinal
disease, glaucoma and external disease, neuro-ophthalmology and squint surgery.
There is in addition a vigorous clinical research program and an Outreach Programs
to provide services and teaching to the developing world and Aboriginal communities
in remote South Australia.
Location
The Department is located on level 5 of the Royal Adelaide Hospital
at the head of the escalators from the main foyer.
Clinic Times
Appointments allocated following receipt of written referrals based upon urgency. All referrals triaged by Senior Medical Staff.
Clinics operate from Monday to Friday, 9 -12 a.m. and 2 -5 p.m.
