Orthopaedic, Amputee & Burns Rehabilitation Service

Orthopaedic & Amputee RehabilitationThe Orthopaedic and Amputee Rehabilitation Unit provides inpatient rehabilitation for clients following limb amputation and orthopaedic surgery and/or trauma, with 70% of these clients falling into the older age group.

Clients are admitted following referral and medical consultation from many sources within Adelaide. The unit provides a team approach to the rehabilitation phase with members from the following areas: Medical, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Prosthetics and other specialist disciplines as required e.g. Dietetics, Speech Pathology and Physical Education.

The client and immediate relatives or carers are also considered part of the team and are encouraged to be part of the program.

Rehabilitation principles are encouraged by all staff, both, on the unit and also within the purpose built therapy complex which the clients attend Monday to Friday.

Dr Adrian Winsor is the Staff Specialist for the Orthopaedic and Amputee Rehabilitation Service.
