ANZCA Advanced Training
Advanced Training Position in Hyperbaric Medicine
The Hyperbaric Medicine
Unit offers a training position in Hyperbaric Medicine to Anaesthesia Registrars
who have completed all other modules of training. This would be undertaken
as part of the 3rd Year of Advanced Training.
This position is half-time
for one year. The remaining time is spent under the direction of the Department
of Anaesthesia.
Positions are also available
for non-anaesthesia trainees or trainees from other countries. However those
interested should contact the Director of the Unit, as individual arrangements
will be needed. Accreditation of the time spent working in this unit needs
to be confirmed by your training supervisory body prior to commencement.
As a trainee in Hyperbaric
Medicine, the registrar receives a period of familiarisation before being
introduced to the on-call roster. They will participate in weekly outpatients
sessions and will be available for consultations regarding new patient referrals.
The unit also coordinates
the Divers Emergency Service, a 24 hour emergency
telephone consultation service for diving emergencies. The registrar also
participates in this as their familiarity increases.
They would also be expected
to present selected lectures to a variety of courses provided by the unit.
These include Medical Officers, Nurses, Diving Medical Technicians and diving
groups.
