Neurosurgery

Definition:

Neurosurgery is the surgery of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves and the supporting structures, the skull and spinal column. Some conditions require the expertise of several disciplines and at the Royal Adelaide Hospital Neurosurgeons work in close collaboration with many other specialists.

 

Neurosurgical Outpatient Clinics:

Conducted all day Monday, Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning. Appointments can be made via the Neurosurgical Outpatient Receptionist on (08) 8222 5235.

 

Interdisciplinary clinics are conducted for special groups.

  • Pituitary Clinic. Conducted the first Thursday of the month.
    Appointments can be made on (08) 8222 5174
  • Radiosurgery Clinic. Conducted Monday afternoon.
    Patients are referred to this clinic following:
    Neurosurgical assessment
    Multidisciplinary assessment and planning of the treatment by the Neurosurgeon and Radiotherapist
  • Movement disorder clinic. (Professor Phil Thompson and Associate Professor Brian Brophy).
    Patients are referred to this clinic after neurological or neurosurgical assessment for management of movement disorder.
  • Neurovascular clinic. Conducted Monday afternoon
    Patients with Neurovascular disorders, particularly aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations are assessed and followed up in this clinic.
