Many things change in any imaging department (including these web pages). Our
commitment to providing the best service means we often update equipment and
procedures. The following information summarises the most recent changes.
- The Picker Prism 2000 is due for replacement and a new SPECT/CT camera should be operational by mid 2008. Many Nuclear Medicine studies benefit from image fusion (see the links below for the PET/CT and Hawkeye). Watch this space for more details
- Our mobile GE Starcam was replaced in September 2006 with a dedicated cardiac
camera - the GE Ventri. The small heads and high resolution/high sensitivity
of this system allows both planar and SPECT gated blood pool scans to be
performed rapidly. This has resulted in greater patient throughput and augmentation of our service with excercise stress equipment.
- General and PET request forms have been available from this site for some time. We have now added a Cardiac referral form with specific guidelines and procedures for myocardial tests.
- A Cardiac Stress test information sheet for patients is also available from our Patient Brochure section, as well as a consumer information leaflet regarding osteonecrosis of the jaw from Osteoporosis Australia and the Australia and New Zealand Bone & Mineral Society
- The Mobile Bone Density Service continues to operate throughout South Australia
(and sometimes beyond). To see if the service will be near you we can email
you the latest timetable.
- Ultrasound bone absorptiometry
tests are of value for quick screening, but not long term monitoring.
However, we continue to provide ultrasound densitometry screening for no charge
to the patients at the Women's Health Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital,
and when invited to rural health fairs.
Over the past few years we have been to the Crystal Brook Show, Port Pirie
Health Expo, Orroroo Health Expo, Hawker Health Fair and repeat visits to
the Riverland Field Days (at the Women's Health Mall). If you would like us
to visit your health fair, please contact
us
- Our Doctor's Guides have been updated:
- Reports continue to be available to referring physicians electronically via the
IMVS
Electronic Data Interface service.
Existing IMVS EDI users may be activated for this service immediately.
If you are not registered for EDI a service request form must be completed.
Please contact
us if you require this service or notify us if your provider number changes as EDI reports are tied to this number. We are also working on emailing copies of reports to other physicians involved in a patient's management.
- The public hospitals of Adelaide are working together to establish a common
patient record. This will allow physicians to view reports in their office,
and also allows them to request imaging examinations and tests on line.
Nuclear Medicine, PET and Bone Densitometry has been working with the Dept
of Health to trial and streamline this new request service over the last 24
months. This project has now been rolled out across all major public hospitals
in Adelaide.
The next step will involve sharing data with private physicians.
