WORK EXPERIENCE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (Australian Residents)
As part of an initiative of the Staff Development Department, Year 11 & 12 high
school students are offered a nursing work experience placement. This is
to provide students considering a nursing career the insight into the role
of nurses working in a health care setting, and hopefully assist with the
recruitment process in the subsequent years.
The placement is of one week duration and students are rotated through areas
of interest, ie Diabetes Centre, bronchoscopy laboratory and Cardiovascular
Investigation Unit (CVIU). The students are strictly observers.
RAH has committed to accepting up to 4 students per week at any one time.
Schools make the requests directly to Staff Development on behalf of the
students. Students are asked to complete an information form and are also
given information re confidentiality legislation.
Students are to be accompanied by nursing staff of RAH at all times during
the period of work experience.
At all times within the ward, the patient anonymity is to be maintained.
Students shall not access patient documentation and will not witness any
procedures deemed too invasive.
If you are interested in work experience at Royal Adelaide Hospital,
please contact the Staff Development Department.
