Department of Clinical Dietetics
Overview
The Department of Clinical Dietetics provides nutrition assessment, education and nutrition support across the North Terrace Hospital campus and at Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre.
Dietitians have at least four years tertiary education to obtain qualification and eligibility to be admitted to the professional organisation of the Dietitians Association of Australia.
The staff includes:

- Clinical Tutor
- Administrative Officer
- Dietary Formula Preparation Room staff

Services Provided
The Royal Adelaide Department of Clinical Dietetics provides a comprehensive range of services, including:
- Inpatient services incorporating nutrition assessment, education and support during acute illness to specialised areas including:
- Cancer Services
- Cardiac Services and Renal
- Gastrointestinal Services
- Internal Medicine Services, including Thoracic Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis and Endocrine & Metabolic.
- Intensive Care Unit
- Orthopaedics and Trauma Services, including Spinal Injuries
- Surgical Specialties, including Burns and Ear, Nose & Throat
- Stroke
- Outpatient services for ongoing nutrition support and education following discharge from hospital. Group education in the areas of diabetes management, cardiac and vascular rehabilitation, and Radiotherapy is available via referral.
- Teaching of Dietetic students and other Medical and Nursing staff within the hospital.
Referral Process
Any inpatient can be referred by a member of the hospital’s Medical, Nursing or Allied Health staff for consultation by a Dietitian. Outpatients treated by a member of the Medical staff at the hospital may also be referred to a Dietitian. Members of the community can locate an Accredited Practising Dietitian through the Dietitians Association of Australia
