Landscaped gardens and courtyards are located within two minutes of every room, providing ready access to a variety of outdoor areas for respite, refreshment and physical therapy.

The Royal Adelaide Hospital site incorporates a total of 3.8 hectares of landscaped environment, including more than 70 themed courtyards and sky gardens across nine levels, creating a 1.6 hectare footprint within the hospital.

The garden areas not only provide opportunities for physical movement and exercise, but have been designed to cater for public gatherings as well as intimate private moments.

The outdoor spaces incorporate shaded areas, a variety of seating options and walking routes.

The RAH is a geen healing environment with:

  • more than 100,000 trees and plants
  • three wetland walks
  • an Aboriginal Garden to provide a place for healing, contemplation and mourning.
