Perioperative Nursing Seminar

The first Royal Adelaide Hospital Perioperative Nursing Seminar was presented in October 1994. It was undertaken by clinicians in an attempt to provide a forum for the exchange of clinically based knowledge and skills for the specialities with perioperative nursing - anaesthetics, day surgery, operating room and recovery.

For each year since, the nursing staffs have presented a series of seminars that were aimed to:

• present the latest information and technology in perioperative nursing practice
• provide important information for nurses who undertake clinical practice within the perioperative environment, on surgical and high dependency ward areas
• deliver the maximum clinical practice benefits at the most cost effective price
• discuss the future directions for perioperative nursing

The seminars also provided a venue for clinicians from around the state to develop a network of expertise for perioperative nurses.

It is now planned that the professional body for perioperative nursing within the state of South Australia will undertake this important professional responsibility through the organisation as a whole and its focus groups.
