COVID-19 CEO Bulletin | 8 September 2020

Hi everyone,

This week the network will hold its regular gate review. I have previously communicated the outcomes of these reviews in my COVID-19 bulletin however this time we’re going to share the recommendations with you a little bit differently.

I’d like to invite you to join the incident management team at 1.30pm on Thursday, 10 September 2020 for a ‘Central COVID-19 live stream’ to hear about the current COVID-19 status both here and interstate and be informed about the gate review recommendations for the next steps in our response planning and preparedness.

If you have a question you would like to ask us about our ongoing COVID-19 response, please email the CALHN Communications team at healthcalhncommunications@sa.gov.au.

Attend Central COVID-19 live stream.

PPE update

As of today, we have 50.2 days of L2 masks, 31.6 days of surgical L3 masks, 21.6 days of surgical L2 masks and 20.8 days of surgical gowns available on site.

The Halyard brand Level 3 Visor Mask is currently low in stock however a replacement by Medicom which meets the relevant standards is available ensuring we have adequate stock available. This Medicom product is currently in use within Technical Suites

Updates to COVID-19 staff portal

This week a number of changes have been made to the COVID-19 staff portal including an update to current travel advice for healthcare workers and what to do if you’re feeling unwell.

A reminder that the CALHN COVID-19 page is updated frequently and is the best source for the most up-to-date information on our COVID-19 response. Here you can access my past bulletins and other useful clinical resources and links.

Over the coming weeks further updates will be made to make it easier to find information and improve the search functionality. If you have any suggestions on information that should be included on this page please email Health.CALHNcommunications@sa.gov.au.

Reminder - call out for staff to assist with COVID-19 response

Expressions of interest are sought from staff who are interested in contributing to the state’s COVID-19 response as part of the SA Public Sector COVID-19 mobilisation. This is an excellent opportunity for staff to share their expertise and gain new experience.

Staff from all professional streams including administration and allied health are invited to register their interest to support with a range of duties including taking swabs, training staff, data entry, call centre operations and a range of clinical support (OPS/AHP’s).

Examples of the types of roles we are looking for include:

  • Nurse managers
  • Nurse educators
  • Registered and enrolled nurses
  • Infections control nurses and clinical consultants
  • Senior project officers
  • Administrative support

Please register your interest here as soon as possible as we will be mobilising staff as soon as we can with the duration of assignment periods varying depending on the roles.

If you have any questions please contact Stephanie at CALHN.EOI@sa.gov.au

Current situation

Today we had one new case in South Australia which is related to a person who has come from overseas. The person is not considered an infectious or active patient but is in quarantine, meaning the state is still officially COVID-19 free.

Victoria has recorded another decrease in cases with 55 new cases. Sadly, Victoria has recorded eight deaths over the past 24 hours.

Today New South Wales has reported nine new cases and Queensland one new cases.

Over the weekend the RAH Clinic tested 77 people which is a significant drop on previous weekends.

As I continue to remind everyone, it is very important that we remember to maintain physical distancing to ensure that we keep our patients, visitors and staff safe, and if you’re sick – stay home (and get tested!). Remember that if you do go for a COVID-19 test that you need to complete a self-reporting form and self-quarantine until you receive your results back.

And as I always say...‘If not us...then who’.
