The Orthopaedic and Trauma Service at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) is the largest public hospital orthopaedic department in South Australia and is committed to delivering the highest standards of patient care.

The RAH serves as a quaternary referral centre catering for general, specialty and complex areas within Orthopaedic Surgery.

The department of Orthopaedics and Trauma provides a number of sub-specialty elective services, including:

  • joint replacement, including complex revisions
  • foot and ankle
  • hand and upper limb
  • hip and knee
  • musculoskeletal tumour
  • spinal (state-wide referral centre)
  • sports injuries
  • orthopaedic trauma
  • orthopaedic virtual clinic and spinal telehealth
  •  ‘young hip’ disorders.

Services are provided to those living in the Central Adelaide area, as well as those referred from rural and remote areas within South Australia and the Northern Territory.

The Department also provides the major Level 1 trauma service for South Australia and beyond.
