The Orthopaedic and Trauma Service at the Royal Adelaide Hospital is the largest public hospital orthopaedic department in South Australia and is committed to delivering the highest standards of patient care.

The RAH serves as a quaternary referral centre catering for general, specialty and complex areas within Orthopaedic Surgery.

The department of Orthopaedics and Trauma provides a number of sub-specialty elective services, including:

  •  joint replacement, including complex revisions
  • spinal (state-wide referral centre)
  •  hand and upper limb
  • orthopaedic trauma
  •  foot and ankle
  • sports injuries
  •  ‘young hip’ disorders
  • orthopaedic virtual clinic and spinal telehealth .

Services are provided to those living in the Central Adelaide area, as well as those referred from rural and remote areas within South Australia and the Northern Territory.

The Department also provides the major Level 1 trauma service for South Australia and beyond.
