The Mental Health Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) is designed to provide the best possible healing environment for consumers, and to streamline access to care.
The Mental Health Unit is an acute unit consisting of 24 Acute Care beds, 10 Psychiatric Intensive Care beds and six Short Stay beds.
All 40 beds are provided in single rooms with ensuite bathrooms, and every room has a window with views of gardens or across the River Torrens.
The Mental Health Unit also includes an exercise room with exercise bikes, lounges, dining rooms, a pool table, provisions for game consoles, and two internet kiosks.
Access to the natural environment is a key design feature of the Mental Health Unit, which maximises the use of natural light and incorporates open spaces and access to internal garden courtyards.
