The Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) is committed to providing the best possible care to everyone, including those who live in the regional, rural and remote parts of our state, as well as in Northern Territory, New South Wales and Victoria.

Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS)

The Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS) is a state-wide subsidy program that provides money to pay for some travel, escort and accommodation costs for rural and remote South Australians who travel over 100 km each way to see a specialist.

Rural Liaison Nurse

The Rural Liaison Nurse is a registered nurse who works within the hospital and is available to help with matters, including:

  • accommodation near the hospital
  • transport to and from the hospital
  • organising a community nurse to visit at home upon discharge.

The Rural Liaison Nurse works in partnership with hospital staff to assist in discharge planning and has good knowledge of the resources available in rural communities that may assist you after discharge.

Staff are available Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Contact the team to find out more about how we support rural and remote patients carers.
